As part of project activities we are conducting experiments at sea. These experiemnts involve measurement of chlorophyll concentration and carbon assimilation in photosnythsis.
The experiments are conducted by the Institute of oceanography and fisheries from Split at two stations in the Adriatic sea. One station is coastal, at Kaštela bay, whereas the other is at open sea, near the Island of Vis. The experiment are carried out using the research vessel BIOS. The ship occupies a station for 6 hours during which the experiment is carried out. The results of these experiments provide information on the vertical structure of chlorophyll and photosynthsis, helping us calibrate mathemtical models that we are developing in the project. We also measure optical properties of the water column to help us model light penetartion.
Paralel to this, we are also working on collecting historical data from these two stations and digitizing them, a laborius effort. This will help us understand long term variability in the data and help us interpret what we are measuring today.
